Charlotte Cornish talks Cambridge Open Studios

"I react to life's emotional impact on me and then paint"

Charlotte Cornish attended the University of Brighton, Sussex where she did a BA Hons in Fine Art Printmaking 1987-1990

She studied at Central St Martins College of Art and Design studying Advance printmaking 1992-1994 and did a post graduate Diploma at the Slade in Fine Art and Printmaking 1990-1992.

From 1993-1996 she studied at Slade School of Fine Art London as an Honorary Research Assistant in Printmaking.

She’s been a painter and printmaker for over 25 years and regularly exhibits at number of prestigious galleries in Cambridge as well as taking commissions.

She works with acrylic paint in layers and she drew inspiration from the emotional impact places she’s visited have on her and then she creates abstracts from them often working from photographs that capture the intensity of the experience.

Atmosphere, noises ,smells, colour and reactions to them combine to make powerful artworks. 

She is also concerned with the action of colour relationships and how they intersect and create myriad of possibilities.
